Milan Special School District has officially achieved the Eat Real Certified Green designation, making it one of only two districts in Tennessee to earn this recognition. Led by Food Service Director Vickie Dunaway and her team, MSSD was recognized for its dedication to serving delicious, nutritious, and responsibly sourced meals across the district.
Certification Highlights:
Local Farm Sourcing: MSSD has partnered with 3 new local farms to support the regional economy and deliver fresh local produce directly to students.
Scratch-Made Meals: Cafeterias serve scratch-made menu items an average of 22 times per week to reduce ultra-processed foods and prioritize whole ingredients.
Hands-On Food Education: Students are developing lifelong healthy habits through hands-on gardening, cooking lessons, and food-focused guest speakers.
